Hey everyone! A warm hello from Guangzhou, where it's 25 degrees!
Guangzhou is the most populated city in Southern China...it happens to be the proud host city of the "XVI Asiad", also known as the Asian Games. 45 countries from Asia are participting in these "regional Olympics": in addition to the Olympic sports, other popular Asian sports like squash are being held.
Yesterday I went to the Aoti Sports Centre , where the tennis event was being played.
In the tennis event, the Number 1 Asian player Denis ISTOMIN (T-Fight 325 Vo2Max/Redcode) is seeded No.1 for the singles event. Denis won the SILVER medal last week in the team competition for Uzbekistan.
The quarter-finals were being held today: Denis was up against the 7th seed Rastogi from India. Denis won but the match contained a bit of drama: the match went to 3 sets, Denis had 2 match points at 5-3, 40-15 up. Rastogi hit a deep ball which landed on the baseline which was called OUT.
The chair umpire called "Game, Set and Match ISTOMIN"...but Denis said "No, it was in. Let's replay the point".Concerning this "self-overrule", Denis said after the match "You know? What can I say? To me, the ball looked in, so I said it was in. I was being honest. "
What a good sportsman!!!!!
Well done Denis and good luck in the semi-finals!
